Comforter Making
The current incarnation of Stirling’s WMA consists of a lively group of regular volunteers who gather twice a month from September to June in the church to sew comforters in support of the MCC’s handmade comforter relief programs. This is a program that pre-dates the founding of Stirling.
In 2023, MCC shipped 59,277 comforters to communities in Canada, Ecuador, Guatemala, Haiti, Iraq, Jordan, Malawi, Syria, Ukraine, Zambia and the United States, including Puerto Rico. They published an article detailing the impact of their comforter relief programs in Ukraine, which can be read online. Stirling contributed more than 20 handmade comforters to the MCC’s efforts in 2023. Our volunteers also supported the Crow Shield Lodge initiative through providing comforters and other handmade items, such as curtains, for the house.
All are welcome to join comforter making every 2nd and 4th Thursday afternoon from 1:00pm – 3 pm in the church basement.
Please also consider attending the New Hamburg Relief Sale the last Saturday in May to view and bid on donated quilts, which also support the MCC’s efforts. Many of our volunteers donate quilts to this initiative. Learn more about the MCC’S Material Resources relief work here.
