Stirling sells $16,000+ of pies for MCC
Report on Pie Sales for the
2025 New Hamburg Mennonite Relief Sale
June 17, 2025
Here’s a brief report on how things went at the May 30-31 Relief Sale in New Hamburg.
Pie sales brought in $16,032, about $2000 less than 2024.
In total, the Sale made $322,338, about the same as 2024
Three food venues (strawberry pies, tea balls, spring rolls) earned more than our pies.
Pies sold out too early (9:45 AM - we aim for 1:00 pm). Why?
200 fewer pies: One church is unable to participate any more. Four churches baked about 1000 pies for the sale.
Friday night sales topped $10,600. All pies arrived in New Hamburg by 6:30 on Friday so there was good selection. Weather was perfect.
Possible solutions:
Relief Sale Committee will see if they can find another church to fill the gap. (If you have any contacts, please let me know.)
Stirling Ave Church will investigate if a local high school or college culinary program might contribute.
Less fruit donated: We have lost our contacts who provided frozen fruit (peaches, cherries, raspberries) for churches in Waterloo Region. The wholesale frozen peaches we purchased had no flavour and were too firm.
We are searching for volunteers to pick and clean any of the following: peaches, cherries, elderberries, raspberries / blackberries.
We can store frozen fruit at Erb Transport.
Do you know of anyone who could help with fruit?
Signage: The Relief Sale Committee will update our out-of-date sign for sponsors and prices. If you know a sponsor to be recognised, inform Steve.
