Honouring the closing of Mino Ode Kwewak N'gamowak
Mino Ode Kwewak N’gamowak, also known as The Good Hearted Women Singers, was a women’s drum circle started in 2003 following the teachings of Elder Jean Becker, made up of Indigenous and non-Indigenous women. They have been connected with Stirling for more than 10 years. They have invited us into dialogue on reconciliation. They have shared their teachings and music with us in several different adult faith formation classes. They have led us in worship & ceremony. We have shared food, friendship and conversation. And in recent years their group has used Stirling as a space to sing, plan events, and heal together. Stirling offered this space freely as an act of reconciliation and recognition of the history of this land.
We must now say goodbye as the group closes, but we are thankful for the time we had and want to honour the work they did. Mino Ode Kwewak N’gamowak focused on building intercultural relationships to work toward reconciliation and healing. They shared songs at justice and reconciliation-focused events, including Sing Fires of Justice, and Bridging Communities Through Song.
Creator’s blessings as they continue to do good work in their own lives.
